Webdesign

"It's not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works." - Steve Jobs

I believe that one of the important skills to have when designing a user interface is to have a clear understanding of the current standards as they dictate the user's expectations. This is why I like to constantly stay up to date with the latest trends in design and how this changes the user experience.

A mobile operating system that suddenly changes its appearance can in an instant change what people perceive as a modern interface and suddenly make the majority of existing interfaces feel old.

Only a few years ago mobile experiences were hard to come by and often users would look for the option to switch back to the desktop version of the site.

The users' expectations can also change much quicker than we think. Only a few years ago mobile experiences were hard to come by and often users would look for the option to switch back to the desktop version of the site. Today that is no longer the case, not only do modern users expect a mobile site but they expect an experience that is just as good as the one on the desktop.

Users who have tried Amazon's shopping experience bring those expectations with them when they visting other webshops.

Users who have tried Amazon's shopping experience bring those expectations with them when they visting other webshops. Once a user has tried using their social security number to automatically input all their personal information for shipping or even Klarna Checkout to complete their entire order by just filling out two fields it's very difficult for them to go back.

This is why I start every interface design project with identifying the best players and look at what they are doing and pick out the very best ideas. This provides an excellent starting point for creating modern user experiences that still feels familiar to the user.
